Penguin Parade By Steve van Zandt 1. Put on your tux, your feathered gown We are going where ice is found Eat some fish along the way And we’re going on a Penguin Parade 2. Hurry up, don’t be slow A hungry seal lurks down below Move along, along your way And we’re gong on a Penguin Parade Yes, we’re going on a Penguin Parade 3. On to the land out of the sea We will stand in colonies On the ground our eggs are laid And we’re going on a Penguin Parade 4. In the spring our chicks hatch out Little penguins run all about They will molt when a tux is made And they’ll join us on a Penguin Parade CHORUS: Who are the birds that cannot fly? Their wings are flippers to swim and glide! Who are the birds with a layer of fat, To keep them warm on the cold ice flat? Penguins – PENGUINS! Penguins – PENGUINS! 5. Black and white, and white and black White in front, and black in back We are penguins, Hip hip hooray! And we’re going on a Penguin Parade And we’re going on a Penguin Parade Yes, we’re going on a Penguin Parade! copyright Slug Music (BMI) 1995 www.BananaSlugStringBand.com

Noses 03:02
2. Noses by Steve Van Zandt CHORUS: There are lots of different noses on lots of different faces. Noses appear in lots of different places. If all that shows is the nose, would you know whose nose it is? Know, know, know, know, know whose nose it is. There’s a long gray nose that looks like a hose. It moves boulders and trees, wherever it goes. It’s got a finger-like type for getting a grip. Do you know whose nose it is? ELEPHANT! Now you know, know, know whose nose it is. There’s a nose like a blow-hole but instead Of being on the face, it’s on the top of the head. It makes breathing a breeze, while swimming at sea. Do you know whose nose it is? WHALE! Now you know, know, know whose nose it is. There’s a very long nose that sweeps the ground. It smells out ants and swallows them down. It’s built that way to find a thousand a day. Do you know whose nose it is? ANTEATER! Now you know, know, know whose nose it is. There’s a round pink nose that’s flat in front. When it digs for food, can you hear it grunt? It finds a meal with smell and feel. Do you know whose nose it is? PIG! Now you know, know, know whose nose it is. There’s a nose I know that’s hard to see. Some say it’s too big but it’s the best it can be. I follow each day as it leads the way. Do you know whose nose it is? YOURS! Now you know, know, know whose nose it is. 4. Black Patches Written by Steve Van Zandt Hey, black patches, Where you gonna go tonight? Hey, black patches By the light of the moon. Hey, black patches, The forest river flows tonight. Hey, black patches – Raccoon. The night is right for nocturnal activity Down to the creek for a drink you go When I am asleep you go prowling so busily Your footprints in the mud, they tell me so. CHORUS The little prowlers in the evening hours Go walking through the woods in the dark of night Little paw prints all along the river bank Are all we see in the morning light. CHORUS I dream to come with you on your midnight rendezvous Down by the creek in the soft moonlight Dancing feet whirl around in celebration To tell the tale of a glorious night. Ants 04:39
5. Ants Written by Steve Van Zandt They came into the house and they didn’t use the door. They walked across the wall and they marched across the floor. They climbed up on the chair where I sat down and ate. They stepped on the table and they stomped upon my plate. They went onto the counter and encountered a spill. That’s where they congregated and they ate their fill. They passed unnoticed where my dog and brothers played, Then they left through the window in an endless parade. CHORUS Thos e ants – ants! Thos e ants – ants! Thos e ants – ants! Thos e ants – ants! What those ants have in common Is that they keep a comin’ They just keep on a walkin’ And nothings gonna stop ‘em Those ants! I got down on my belly and I looked them in the face. I said to every ant, “Get out of my place!” But when I started seeing from an ant’s point of view, I wanted to know more about what ants can do. CHORUS Some ants, they are gardeners. They grow mushrooms with dead leaves. Others they are ranchers, milking aphids in the trees. When army ants are hungry, whatever’s in their way Could be devoured in less than a day. CHORUS They use their antennas – that’s how they move along, By smelling the ground where other ants have gone. And they can lift up things ten times the weight they are. If we could be that strong then we could lift a car. CHORUS I had my picnic basket and my checkered cloth spread. But first I took a nap and I laid down my head. When I work up, you can guess what I did see. They were crawling everywhere to share my lunch with me. CHORUS copyright Slug Music (BMI) 1995 www.BananaSlugStringBand.com

CHORUS 2: ‘Cause I’m a little fishy And you’re a little fishy We’re all little fishies Swimming in the sea. (Swim, swim, swim in the sea. Swim, swim, swim in the sea.) CHORUS 1 There are fish that walk Some fly or leap. The fish with fishing poles Use little lights down deep. We’re every color, shape and size Such diversity CHORUS 2 Ahhaaa – Swim, swim, swim in the sea. Swim, swim, swim in the sea. 7. California Sea Otter Written by Steve Van Zandt copyright Slug Music (BMI) 1995 www.BananaSlugStringBand.com Diving to the bottom where the food is found Lyin’ in the kelp bed when the sun goes down. Twistin’ and a-turning, spinning all around, You know that you’re the ocean clown California Sea Otter You’re the ocean clown. California Sea Otter You’re the ocean clown. There you are floating on your back With that rock on your chest, you give that clam a crack. You spin around, dive back down and then You’re back to your back with a whack, smack snack again. Night time comes, you’re fluffing up your fur. Your pup’s on your belly snuggled warm and secure. Wrap yourself in keep and you will be In the cradle of the rockin’ sea. California Sea Otter You’re the ocean clown. California Sea Otter Just foolin’ around. You were once hunted for that fur of yours. I’m glad you’ve come back home to these safe shores. Let’s go swim and surf out in the sea. Come and ride a west coast wave with me. Diving to the bottom where the food is found. Lying in the kelp bed when the sun goes down. Twistin’ and a-trning, spinning all around, You know that you’re the ocean clown. California Sea Otter You’re the ocean clown. California Sea Otter Just foolin’ around Whirlin’, twirlin’, whirlin’, twirlin’ sea otter. California Sea Otter – You’re the ocean clown. (2X)

Animals live in tropical lands, And giant old growth redwood stands, Desert dunes, a lake or a bog. Hey! An animal can live in a rotting old log. They live everywhere – this whole world round, In the air, land or water and underground. Food, water, shelter, that’s where it’s at. An animal’s home is called its habitat. CHORUS: What do animals need? – a wild home What do animals need? – Room to roam What do animals need? – Clean water and air What do animals need? – Love and care The blue whale in the ocean, the tortoise in the sand The tigers in the jungle hope that we will understand. If we take away their homes, what will animals do? Where will they go? They can’t live with you! Alligators and snakes would be sleeping in your bed, Monkeys jumping off the tables, flying bats above your head. For a cheetah there would be no place to run. What misery for a grizzly, it wouldn’t be much fun. Imagine in your kitchen, a herd of wildebeest, Raiding your fridge on a midnight feast. It just wouldn’t work, that’s plain to see. These animals need to be wild and free. CHORUS Now animals need the earth to survive. A habitat, a home that keeps them alive. And people, we have the same needs too. Together we share this little space Let’s keep this world a beautiful place. All animals need the earth to survive. Protect habitats, keep them alive. We can keep it that way – the forest green We can keep it that way – the rivers clean We can keep it that way – let’s plant the seed We can keep it that way – for what we need. What do animals need? A healthy home What do animals need? Room to roam What do animals need? Clean water and air What do animals need? Love and care.
