It moves boulders and trees, wherever it goes.
It’s got a finger-like type for getting a grip.

There’s a nose like a blow-hole but instead
Of being on the face, it’s on the top of the head.
It makes breathing a breeze, while swimming at sea.

WHALE!

There’s a very long nose that sweeps the ground.
It smells out ants and swallows them down.
It’s built that way to find a thousand a day.

There’s a round pink nose that’s flat in front.
When it digs for food, can you hear it grunt?
It finds a meal with smell and feel.

They came into the house and they didn’t use the door.
They walked across the wall and they marched across the floor.
They climbed up on the chair where I sat down and ate.
They stepped on the table and they stomped upon my plate.
They went onto the counter and encountered a spill.
That’s where they congregated and they ate their fill.
They passed unnoticed where my dog and brothers played,
Then they left through the window in an endless parade.

What those ants have in common
Is that they keep a comin’
They just keep on a walkin’
And nothings gonna stop ‘em
Those ants!
I got down on my belly and I looked them in the face.
I said to every ant, “Get out of my place!”
But when I started seeing from an ant’s point of view,
I wanted to know more about what ants can do.

Some ants, they are gardeners.
They grow mushrooms with dead leaves.
Others they are ranchers, milking aphids in the trees.
When army ants are hungry, whatever’s in their way
Could be devoured in less than a day.

They use their antennas – that’s how they move along,
By smelling the ground where other ants have gone.
And they can lift up things ten times the weight they are.
If we could be that strong then we could lift a car.

I had my picnic basket and my checkered cloth spread.
But first I took a nap and I laid down my head.
When I work up, you can guess what I did see.
They were crawling everywhere to share my lunch with me.

What Do Animals Need?

Animals live in tropical lands,
And giant old growth redwood stands,
Desert dunes, a lake or a bog.
Hey! An animal can live in a rotting old log.
They live everywhere – this whole world round,
In the air, land or water and underground.
Food, water, shelter, that’s where it’s at.
An animal’s home is called its habitat.

What do animals need? – a wild home

What do animals need? – Clean water and air
What do animals need? – Love and care
The blue whale in the ocean, the tortoise in the sand
The tigers in the jungle hope that we will understand.
If we take away their homes, what will animals do?
Where will they go? They can’t live with you!
Alligators and snakes would be sleeping in your bed,
Monkeys jumping off the tables, flying bats above your head.
For a cheetah there would be no place to run.
What misery for a grizzly, it wouldn’t be much fun.
Imagine in your kitchen, a herd of wildebeest,
Raiding your fridge on a midnight feast.
It just wouldn’t work, that’s plain to see.
These animals need to be wild and free.

Now animals need the earth to survive.
A habitat, a home that keeps them alive.
And people, we have the same needs too.
